When an unexpected emergency happens, sometimes people have to make do with what they got on hand. However a mom in Pontiac, Michigan is left furious after her daughter broke her arm at school and authorities used ice cream sandwiches to treat the swelling rather than standard bags of ice.
According to the mother, her 7-year-old daughter named Brianna encountered the injury while playing on the monkey bars at Webber Media Arts Academy. She was taken to the school office, however staff called family members rather than 911.
While trying to contact relatives, school workers also attempted to lessen Brianna’s pain, however the kitchen was out of ice so they opted to treat her with the coldest item they had which turned out to be ice cream sandwiches.
Luckily, Brianna's aunt was contacted and came to the school to pick up her niece and take her to the hospital. While a broken arm may not seem like a life-threatening injury, there was a possibility that she could have gone into shock or suffered a concussion, which makes the decision not to call 911 controversial.
