An elderly man reportedly died after a pill casing ripped a hole through his intestine.
Usually pills are a contributing part of physical recovery. In one bizarre recent case, an elderly man reportedly died after a pill’s packaging ripped a hole through his intestine.
The tragic incident occurred in the middle of last year at a hospital located in Southern Sweden. The unidentified man had just undergone heart surgery and he was in the recovery phase.
He had been doing fine, up until the day he was scheduled to be discharged. The male complained to medical personnel about having stomach pains. Soon, an emergency surgery was conducted.
That’s when doctors realized there was a hole in the elderly man’s intestine. Surgeons also located a pill which was still enclosed in its packaging.
A hospital spokesperson stated “The dosage packaging was made of plastic and perforated so that you can tear off one pill at a time. The perforation can leave sharp corners. It is probable that the patient swallowed it together with the plastic casing and this caused the intestinal damage.”
The man reportedly suffered from poor eyesight, which may have played a role in the fatal mistake.
