A self-proclaimed supporter of Greece's far-right Golden Dawn Party appeared in a Greek court on Saturday (September 21), accused in the fatal stabbing of a musician.
The 45-year-old suspect, who has already confessed to the killing, is to be charged with murder with intent and illegal weapons' possession. He is expected to plead guilty.
Police guarded the courthouse in the southern Athens coastal suburb of Piraeus to prevent trouble, after the killing sparked several street protests.
The victim, Pavlos Fissas, who went by the stage name Killah P, was stabbed twice in the heart and chest on Tuesday night (September 17) in a brawl after a soccer match shown in a cafe.
The seemingly politically-motivated killing of Fissas has outraged Greek society, divided by years of economic hardship. Rallies to mark his death have been held in several cities, and some have turned violent.
