In assembling their worst 100 list of the “2013 Fall Allergy Capitals”, The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America took three primary factors into consideration.
They were pollen count, medication sales including both prescription and over the counter allergy remedies, and the number of doctors specializing in allergies working in the area.
Scores revealed that places all over the country proved to have a combination of those factors significant enough to rank, but only one city got a perfect score – Wichita, Kansas.
According to the official report, it was high pollen and dependence on medications that really made the city stand out.
Jackson, Mississippi came in 2nd, and Knoxville, Tennessee was given the number 3 spot.
Residents of last year’s top ranked Louisville, Kentucky will no doubt be overjoyed to learn that this year they’ve dropped to 4th place.
Memphis rounded out the top 5.
Regardless of their city’s rank, experts remind the 40 million Americans afflicted with allergies that suffering is often optional.
