Up to 78 Palestinians are to be released from Israeli jails in the coming weeks as a gesture of goodwill by the Netanyahu government as peace talks resume. This figure is small compared to the thousands that have been released in the past, prompting anger against Mahmoud Abbas. In return, the Palestinians have agreed to temporarily halt their campaign for statehood.
