Video of a pedestrian narrowly escaping death after darting in front of an express train in Australia has been released by Queensland Rail.

The footage shows a man waiting at a level crossing for a train to pass in one direction and then pushing open a closed safety gate and walking in front of another train coming from the other direction.

The 20-year-old man was grazed by one of the trains which was travelling at 60 km/h through a suburban station in Brisbane last month.

After the incident, the man appeared in court and was fined $2,200 AUD ($2050 USD) Queensland Rail said.

The female train driver was traumatized by the incident and had to take leave from work, Emerson said.
