In nine days time, the people of Germany are heading to the polls to decide whether whether Angela Merkel will retain her title as chancellor, the head of the German government and the international face of the country. Merkel hopes to hold on to office by forming another conservative coalition. Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer reports from Hamburg on the different forces shaping Germany's political landscape. On the next step of our tour through Germany ahead of the vote, Al Jazeera will be visiting a poor town in the region of Mecklenburg to look at voters who are tempted by political extremes.
