The international community seems to be moving ahead with an idea that the U.S. originally described as a gaffe.
The idea: The U.S. drops its plans for a military strike and Syria gives up its chemical weapons.
France is writing a U.N. Security Council draft resolution and Russia is preparing a plan for Syria to follow.
French Foreign Affairs Minister Laurent Fabius says the resolution would demand Syria come clean about its program without delay.
(SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER LAURENT FABIUS SAYING:
"Our objective is to eradicate chemical threat and the protection of the Syrian people. So -- we saw that through the Russian suggestions yesterday -- it is our determination to act, including with military force, which has allowed a new way to achieve this, so we want to explore this new route in good faith but we don't want this to be an instrument for dilatory maneuvers."
