People of Delhi celebrate Janmashtami with great vigor and enthusiasm. They visit various Lord Krishna temples and offer special puja on this day. At the crack of the dawn, people take holy bath and prepare for the grand puja event celebration. They give holy bath to the idol of Lord Krishna and offer bhog. Besides, they also decorate the temples and their temples at home. They deck up the houses with several Janmashtami bands, streamers and 'Shubh Janmashtami' strips. They also purchase a silver or golden baby Krishna idol to rock him in the cradle. In fact, the cradle of the Lord is also made up of silver or gold.

The grand puja for Janmashtami celebrations in Delhi begins at midnight when with the full puja 'samagri', the grand worship is offered. Devotees from all over the city visit the special Lord Krishna and Radha temples to offer prayers. They offer fruits, flowers, cash and jewelries. Sometimes, people also observe Janmashtami fast on this day. And break it while they have completed the puja. In fact, some also go for waterless fast for the whole day.
