In 2014, NATO and US troops will end combat operations in Afghanistan, leaving Kabul to write the next chapter in its history alone. As the Taliban have not been defeated, the government will have to find some sort of way to impose stability without Hamid Karzai, who is barred from running in the next presidential election.
