Officials in Cairo are sifting through the rubble left by a car bomb in a failed assassination attempt against a top government official.
The attack killed at least two people and injured at least a dozen, including children and security officials, but the bomb did not kill Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EGYPTIAN INTERIOR MINISTER, MOHAMED IBRAHIM, SAYING:
"All I can do is thank God. It was a vile attempt. The forensics lab informed me that it was a large bomb which was set off from afar and they targeted the exact timing of my convoy passing through that street because all of the explosion debris is directed at my car."
The attack destroyed a nearby building and several cars, including some in Ibrahim's convoy.
Officials say the minister's vehicle came under heavy gunfire during the attack.
One witness says he saw a car explode while the minister's car was close by.
