Some dogs have a rough start in life.

An adorable 6-weeks-old puppy that was abandoned in a car is now in the care of a proper owner. The dog was first discovered hiding under the seat of a vehicle that was involved in a police chase in New Zealand.

The driver and occupants had abruptly taken off in a car when Christchurch police attempted to stop them. The suspects later ditched the vehicle sometime during the evading effort and that’s when two officers found the puppy.

The dog was kept in a pound for a week so that the owners could claim her but nobody came. In the meantime, the two officers who rescued the canine couldn’t stop thinking about her.

The cops visited the pooch numerous times during that week as they both wanted to adopt the dog.

An animal shelter staff member stated “They were fighting over it so they might have tossed a coin for it, I don't know.”

While it remains unknown which cop got to take her home or if both went for a joint custody deal, one thing is sure, the puppy is now in good hands.
