Petite Ceinture Nature Walk in Paris

2013-09-02 125

The "Petite Ceinture" was a ring railroad around Paris built during the Second Empire in the 19th century. It was fully active for passengers AND freight until 1934. Gradually shut down, the unused land has been partially converted into green spaces which are educational and pleasant. I have a clip up on Dailymotion of one of these new parks but over in the 15th arrondissement and it is different from this, still having some tracks visible and having a boardwalk, more architecture visible. This one is kind of down in a ditch, you could walk barefoot on soft mulched soil if you really wanted to, and it's noisy but very, very green. It is around Porte de Passy and runs along rue Montmorency, near Auteil. It is also near Ranelagh. I found the entry to this near Ranelagh accessible (I am somewhat disabled) but the exit had stairs. It is a very pleasant and unusual aspect of Paris.
