U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry laid out the case against Syria, outlining what the U.S. government knows about the deadly chemical attack in a Damascus suburb last week. The administration has released a declassified report that has been made available to the public.
Kerry says 1,429 people were killed in the gas bombing, including 426 children.
The Obama administration will continue to consult with Congress and its allies about when, how, and if the U.S. will take military action, Kerry said. But President Obama has emphasized the United States will make its own decisions based on the values and interests of the country.
Kerry went on to say the United States has "high confidence," based on the evidence provided by the intelligence community, that Assad's regime was behind last week's deadly chemical bombing.
