Reportedly, the location was picked back then because it was both inconspicuous and convenient, situated at the halfway point between the informant’s and the reporter’s apartments.

Being the associate director of the FBI, the source wished to remain anonymous, so a Washington Post editor gave him the nickname Deep Throat.

It was their conversations that resulted in the 1974 resignation of President Richard Nixon.

For many years, the identity of the person who brought down the president remained a mystery. In 2005 Mark Felt came forward and announced that he was the man behind the information. He passed away three years later.

Two years ago, Arlington County, Virginia put up a marker with a passage outlining the site’s historical significance.

Developers of the new mixed-use complex, which will include offices, shops, and residences, have said they’d like to include the plaque in their design.

Arlington County’s approval process could take up to four years.
