The 22-year-old university student was across the street from her hostel when the attack happened.

Eyewitnesses to the assault say that her assailant first approached her in a friendly manner and began to talk to her.

At some point in the conversation she snubbed him and at that time he became enraged.

In his fit of anger he pulled a t-shirt out of his bag and dipped it in what was believed to be gasoline.

He proceeded to light it on fire and then threw it at her.

Following his actions he fled but was soon after caught.

Students and shopkeepers nearby rushed to the victim’s aid after hearing her screams for help.

She collapsed on the scene and was soon after rushed to an area hospital.

It was reported that she suffered 20 percent burns on her back, shoulders, and neck.

Her attacker sustained minor injuries.
