STORY: British Foreign Secretary William Hague said on Wednesday the motion on how to respond to an alleged chemical attack in Syria to be considered by parliament on Thursday was consistent with the approach adopted by the government so far.
"So this motion endorses... that we're putting to the House of Commons tomorrow... endorses the government's consistent approach that we must be prepared to take action against the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime, to deter the future use of chemical weapons. But it also reflects the desire to proceed on a consensual basis," Hague told reporters in London.
"This is after all something on which the world should be able to unite. The use of chemical weapons in the 21st century is unacceptable, and so we are making every possible effort to make sure the British parliament can unite," he continued to say.
Hague's comments came after Britain changed its stance on Syria on Wednesday,
