Floods triggered by heavy rains continued to inundate southern China on Sunday (August 25), state media reported.
The city of Shantou in China's southern Guangdong province experienced sporadic rainfalls which began with the arrival of Typhoon Utor on August 17, state broadcaster CCTV said.
Since then, several districts of Shantou City have experienced massive blackouts and many surrounding levees have been breached, CCTV said. Around 784,000 residents and 208 villages in the area have been affected by the floods, it added.
CCTV showed footage of Shantou residents wading through shoulder-deep water and riding on rafts in flooded streets.
Authorities have since taken preventive measures to combat the flooding by strengthening local levees, CCTV said.
Over 100 people have been killed and millions affected across China as a result of recent floods.
