A man in South Florida is ecstatic over a court victory pertaining to one of his seemingly odd hobbies.
Earlier this year, in April, Alex Mesa received a ticket for nearly $80 for obstructing traffic because he was running backwards. Mesa has been jogging in the opposite direction for several years because he claims it puts less strain on his body.
According to police, the ticket wasn’t for running backwards but for blocking traffic because he was jogging in the road. Mesa recently found himself in front of a judge who said that he could run backwards to his heart’s content, so long as he stayed in the lanes made for bikes and pedestrians. Mesa stated “Every time I went jogging, it felt like I was going to buy drugs, like I was sneaking out and doing something wrong and that was an uncomfortable feeling, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me because I know very well I came very far to get to where I’m at.”
