Getting struck by a train is an unthinkable tragedy that all too often results in death. Unbelievably, a man near Michigan City was hit by a fast moving Amtrak train that was traveling at 110 miles per hour.
Here’s where it gets shocking… the 22-year-old male survived. Darryle See was reportedly conscious and talking to police when they arrived on scene.
According to a local law enforcement authority, See was struck by the train and thrown about 20 feet before landing in some tall grass. The train conductor applied the horn and brakes but was unable to stop in time. The victim was hit head on.
See’s grandmother stated “He says he doesn't remember anything until he woke up on the other side of the tracks. He called us earlier. He talked to me for a few minutes. He's going to make it.”
LaPorte County Police Major John Boyd claimed he has never seen a survival like it in his long career in law enforcement. The victim is currently in the hospital with injuries to his neck and fractures to his pelvis, however none of his injuries are life-threatening.
