A family in Illinois is grieving after an 8-year-old boy was found dead inside a refrigerator.
The boy, who was autistic, was pronounced dead on Thursday, only one day after he disappeared. The child, named Marquail Johnson, was discovered inside an upright fridge in the backyard of a house only a few homes away from where he lived.
Police are currently investigating the death to determine if it was an accident or if any foul play was involved. Marquail was previously seen by his mother at around 7:45 p.m on Wednesday.
He was playing by his house. Another family member witnessed the child in a nearby alley shortly after 8 pm.
At 10 pm that same night, Marquail was reported missing. The following morning, the boy was discovered inside the refrigerator with the door latch closed from the outside.
There were no evident signs of injury to Marquail’s body, but an autopsy found the young boy most likely died from suffocation.
