The National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington DC sights are among the most beautiful parts of our country. In a recent troubling report, approximately 1,000 dead fish have been found in one of the ponds.
According to The National Park Service, the fish were discovered dead in the Constitution Gardens pond. A service crew is planning on testing the water along with the algae levels to determine the cause of the massive die-off.
A spokeswoman for the National Park Service stated “There's a number of environmental factors from certain types of algae to low- dissolved oxygen in the water.” The blue gills, that measured about 2 inches in length, were first discovered belly up in Constitution Gardens pond situated between the World War II Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
It may take up to several days to determine of the cause of the deaths, however the incident isn’t really a shock. Other fish die-offs have occurred at the same location.
The pond is reported to be at the top of the list for a design and construction update in order to keep a steady ecological balance.
