A German court has acquitted a painter for performing the Hitler salute which is outlawed in the country.

Jonathan Meese had outraged spectators when he used the Nazi gesture at an event discussing art and megalomania.

The 48-year-old argued that his use of Nazi symbols was satirical and a form of artistic expression - and the court agreed.
