You probably expect fire and rescue authorities to be fully prepared to handle anything. However that wasn’t the case recently in Washington D.C.
A fire department ambulance ran out of gas at the worst possible time. The vehicle, commonly referred to as Medic 1 was supposed to trail behind President Obama and the First Lady as part of the presidential motorcade.
The couple had left the White House celebrate President Obama’s 52nd birthday. The ambulance is a crucial part of the motorcade in the unlikely event of any physical issues with Barack or Michelle Obama.
According to fire department spokesman, Tim Wilson, the vehicle did in fact run out of fuel, however a replacement ambulance was brought in to take its place.
An investigation is now underway to determine if the ambulance was properly fueled up before the motorcade.
The driver of Medic 1 claimed that the fuel gauge was broken and the issue was previously relayed to supervisors. However Wilson stated “To my knowledge, prior to this incident there was no report of any problem with the fuel gauge. If there was, no operator prior to this had reported that.”
