A New Jersey Shore fisherman reported finding a shoe filled with skeletal human remains.

When fishing, it's not uncommon to find much more than just fish.

A New Jersey Shore fisherman reported finding a shoe filled with skeletal human remains.

The man was fishing at Corson's Inlet State Park, just 15 miles away from Atlantic City when he came upon the shoe early in the afternoon.

It was identified by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office as a size 5 and a half black Adidas hightop for the right foot.

They also offered that the some of the remains’ toes had colored nail polish, but declined to confirm the gender or age.

It’s noteworthy that just because the foot isn’t attached to the body, that doesn’t mean intentional dismemberment took place. Apparently, as the ankle is relatively weak sometimes disconnections just happen.

Even though finding a shoe with human remains in it isn’t common, it does occur from time to time. In one case, an entire pair washed up on a shore.

The foot is being sent to the State Anthropologist for further examination and DNA testing.

Police are looking for any information that may help in linking the finding with an identity.
