The one-mile stretch of road was stolen from the Northwestern Federal District of the Komi Republic.
The 40-year-old from the area admitted he was responsible for removing the 82 reinforced concrete slabs that once linked a village and a river.
It’s unlikely he had much of a choice but to confess as he was caught while transporting some highly incriminating evidence – the road itself.
Using a manipulator, a machine that’s part forklift and part bulldozer, the thief dug up the slabs. After the pieces were torn from the ground they were hoisted onto three trucks.
The trucks were traveling convoy-style when police saw them, grew suspicious, and pulled them over to investigate further.
Russian officials valued the stolen goods at just over 6 thousand dollars.
Stealing infrastructure has become a somewhat regular occurrence in Russia.
Typically, the bandits stick to bridges as they can sell the metal.
