Trekking in Uttarkhand Himalayas can be termed as an absolute joy for nature and adventure lovers. Uttarakhand is the only Himalayan state which offers the widest variety and nature of treks. Kumaon and Garhwal region of Himalayas in Uttarakhand offers treks to glaciers, Snow belts, Altitude lakes ,Lush green meadows, and religious shrines.
This Himalayan state offers famous Chhaya Gidara & Dayara bugyals (Alpine meadows) with their spectacular views of the snow-capped high Himalaya peaks from Bamsaru pass and views of both the Hanumanganga valley and Dayara Gidara valley. There are vistas of dramatic peaks - Bandar Punchh, Black peak and the panoramic Gangotri range of mountains, etc. The Bamsaru-Khal trek is known for its flower-sprinkled meadows and unspoiled nature. Serene Dodi Tal (holy lake), forest bordered and mountain rimmed, is home to the famous sacred golden trout watched over by a solitary shadu from his lonely lake-side temple. From here it's up to the mountain top meadows for visits with hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats. There are frequent sightings of families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above and chances to see ibex, snow fox, Himalayan belchers & eagles. And one can enjoy seasonal contacts with Gujars (generally handsome tribal Muslim mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking & their herds of buffalo, as well as visits to local picturesque mountain villages.
This Himalayan state not only boasts of nature trekking but also being origin of Ganges,Yamuna and world famous Hindu and Sikh shrines, offers Religious pilgrimage trails too e.g Kedarnath, Madmaheshwar, Hemkunth Sahib, Gangotri, Yumunotri,Nanda devi Raj jat trek ,are the treks or pilgrim trails which not only quench a trekker's excitement and zeal about trekking but also gets trekker a spiritual calm and content on reaching the destination i.e these shrines.
There are many other beautiful and various difficulty level treks in Uttarakhand. Though every route to remote villages and valleys infact is a trek here but still there are somewhere around 200 formally identified treks,Many of which are world famous and are trekkers delight since British rule. Some of the known treks today in Uttarakhand Himalayas were made famous by British trekkers like Frank Smythe, Lord Curzon during 'Raj' era.
