The special force drives unmarked SUVs that have been equipped with higher than usual platform allowing them a better view of what people are doing while driving.
According to a state trooper, one of the red flags leading to a closer look is not seeing both of the driver’s hands on the wheel.
The stealth SUVs, officially known as Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement Vehicles, seem to be getting the job done.
It’s been reported that within an hour, one state trooper pulled over 4 distracted texters.
One, a woman using the Internet, was nabbed within minutes of the trooper getting on the road.
Others who were caught in the act reportedly didn’t even notice being driven alongside of or being followed.
Something bound to get people’s attention is the state’s increased penalty for distracted driving. Each infraction can put 5 points on a drivers’ license. The state can revoke or suspend a driver's license at 11 points.
