Many drunk people have a hard time performing even a simple task. Not the case for John Morillo.

The Canadian man recently swam across the Detroit River, after drinking about 8 beers. 47-year-old Morillo only wanted to prove that he could swim to the United States. The only problem was that his late night exercise prompted an international rescue.

Police in Windsor were the first to respond to the incident after a neighbor contacted authorities at about 11:30 P.M. to say that Morillo had dived into the waters and could no longer be seen. Law enforcement workers alerted Canadian officials along with the U.S. coast guard. A major rescue operation ensued.

Three boats along with a helicopter were sent out to search for him. Morillo was all the while oblivious to what was going on and he simply continued swimming.

Amazingly, he had made to Detroit and was on his way back to Canada at roughly 1 in the morning. That’s when rescue workers found him.

Morillo was arrested and he has since been charged with being intoxicated in public.
