Raising glasses … and guns to Britain's youngest royal.

New Zealand gave the infant prince - born to Duke and Duchess of Cambridge William and Kate Monday -- a 21-gun salute.

Australians greeted news of the birth with a toast.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MEMBER OF THE AUSTRALIAN MONARCHIST LEAGUE, AIMEE RICHARDS SAYING:

"The monarchy to me is a symbol of our heritage and it's part of our nations history so it is very important to me that we continue it on. You know, I love the royal family and I find they're very down to earth and relatable in many ways so, I'm very happy that the royal baby's been born today and it's very exciting."

The 8 lb 6 oz baby was born at 4:24 pm in a London hospital and is third in line to the throne.

"I'm happy for them. I'm glad everything has worked out for them, you know. Everybody's healthy and happy and life goes on."
