A raging wildfire in Southern California continues to burn for a fifth day as poor weather threatens to hamper containment efforts.

From the ground and the sky, firefighters raced to reinforce a buffer zone between the fire and the towns it threatens.

The so called "Mountain Fire" is inching closer to the scenic resort town of Idyllwild and has already charred nearly 25,000 acres of dry brush and timber.

Residents in that community, which is known for it's hiking trails, arts and music scene, were ordered to evacuate earlier this week.

Of the 17 or so large wildfires burning across several western states, officials said this fire ranks as their top priority.
