Nelson Mandela’s health "improving" on 95th birthday

The country's first post-apartheid president is celebrating his 95th birthday in hospital.

Mandela's health has been the subject of frenzied media speculation, with reports suggesting the president might be close to death.

But his daughter Zindzi says the former president's health is steadily improving.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) NELSON MANDELA'S DAUGHTER, ZINDZI MANDELA, SAYING:

"There were a couple of times where I like, was very insecure and uncertain and very afraid, you know of what might happen. But over the past three weeks or so I have just seen a huge turnaround. Of course I am not a medical doctor, they are the ones who will decide, determine when he is going home but I am confident it will be sometime soon."
