Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was featured on the cover of the August issue of Rolling Stone magazine.
The cover sent a wave of angry messages on social media Wednesday but also messages of support.
The magazine released a statement saying the feature article is in keeping with its tradition of covering important political and cultural issues of the day.
It said 19-year old Tsarnaev is the same age as many of its readers, making his story all the more important.
But Boston Mayor Thomas Menino finds the whole thing in bad taste.

"Why heroize this guy? He's just a…he's a terrorist we don't want him on any awards. We don't want him on magazines. We don't want him anywhere."
The 19-year old is charged with plotting the twin bombings at the Boston Marathon in April with his older brother.
He faces the death penalty if convicted.
