The City Council of Long Beach, California recently drafted an ordinance that limits the use of music by ice cream trucks.
It states that vendors will have to turn off the ditties while they’re actively serving frozen treats.
One Council member was quick to say, "I want to state for the record, I do like ice cream and I enjoy ice cream trucks. We just have to strike a balance of the needs of our neighbors for peace and quiet and the business needs to sell ice cream."
It seems that many area residents had been complaining about the volume and frequency of the tunes.
Some complained that they couldn’t hear the tv while others said it was just generally maddening.
Many sellers are not at all happy about the limitations placed on when they can play the music. Without it, they say, customers may have no idea they’re there.
What do you think? Should ice cream trucks be allowed to play music?
