Typhoon Soulik killed one police officer and damaged buildings in Taiwan on Saturday (July 13) after it swept through the island bringing strong winds and torrential rain overnight.
Fifty-year-old police officer Chen Chin-jong died after falling bricks caused a serious head injury as he returned home from duty early on Saturday morning.
A fire broke out at a factory in New Taipei City, but no one was injured.
Soulik caused floods in the north-eastern parts of Taiwan, leaving more than 780,000 households without electricity.
As of 0215 GMT, Soulik's centre was located 60 kilometres (37 miles) north-west of Taiwan, moving at the speed of 25 kph (15.5 mph), according to the Central Weather Bureau.
Soulik is currently rated a category 1 typhoon on a scale of five and is expected to weaken into a tropical storm in 24 hours, according to the Tropical Storm Risk websit
