Most dogs aren’t too picky when it comes to food. Unfortunately, this behavior can sometimes put them in dangerous situations.
Police in San Francisco are looking for a suspect who planted poisoned meatballs along streets in the city.
Authorities believe the meat pieces were left behind in an attempt to sicken and potentially kill dogs. The meatballs were found in dog friendly areas, in neighborhoods specifically where canines frequently defecate.
According to police “These meatballs laced with rodent poison were specifically left for canine consumption. Thanks to the efforts of the local community, hundreds of the hazardous meatballs were identified, collected and disposed of.”
Investigators are working hard to find the culprit. Local dog walking folks have been prompted to contact the police department’s non-emergency number if any suspicious meat product is spotted on the ground.
Although no dogs died from the tainted balls, at least two pooches were forced to receive veterinary care from ingesting them. Vets suspect strychnine was the chosen ingredient in the meatballs, but toxicology results are still pending.
