A residential explosion is a rare occurrence that most people will thankfully never encounter.
But Margaret Goodwin is one unfortunate victim who did deal with a terrifying blast at her house.
The explosion happened during the early morning hours when a homemade jar of rhubarb chutney exploded in the fridge.
The refrigerator door had completely blown off the hinges and the door flew across the room. The impact smashed family photos and tore out a piece of the wall.
The explosion raised the ceiling and cracked the walls of the apartment. In the end, the residence was left nearly destroyed.
66-year-old Goodwin stated “If I had been standing in the way, it would probably have killed me. It had only been in the fridge for five days and I was looking forward to enjoying it. I didn’t expect it to blow up before I could get to it.”
Firefighters were initially dumbfounded, but later concluded the rhubarb chutney exploded after gas fermented and built up inside the jar.
