Mubarak retrial adjourned

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak listens attentively in court on Saturday, as his retrial is adjourned until after the fasting month of Ramadan.

The former leader faces charges of conspiracy to murder hundreds of demonstrators in 2011.

Flanked by his sons Alaa and Gamal, the 85-year-old appeared in good health as he sat in the dock.

Mubarak was sentenced to life imprisonment in June 2012.

But the country's highest appeals court ordered a retrial in January after accepting appeals from both the defence and prosecution.

Proceedings against Mubarak have been dogged by controversy and delay.

Pro-democracy activists and victims' families have accused Mubarak's defence team and judges appointed under his rule of dragging out the case to avoid a verdict.
