According to fire authorities in Appleton, Wisconsin, a massive fire broke out after a person attempted to take off paint on the exterior of a house.

Reportedly, a torch was used in the paint removing process. It sparked a fire which caused heavy damage to the attic of the residence.

The fire department respsonded to a call concerning smoke coming through the roof. Firefighters believe the torch caused insulation material to catch fire.

Although fire authorities arrived at the scene quickly, the attic had already been nearly destroyed and the remainder of the house encountered water damage. There was no immediate estimate on the total amount of wreckage.

Blow torches were a common method to removing paint decades ago. The flame essentially causes the paint to bubble and loosen. The coloring can then be scraped off with a knife.

However the flame reaches temperatures between 3200 and 3800 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning the operator can easily get burned and the wood underneath the paint can easily ignite.
