Mexico's Popocatepetl volcano puts on a dramatic performance on Thursday.

The peak, known as "smoking mountain", is on phase two alert - the second-highest on the scale.

It's bad news for passengers at Mexico City's international airport, around 40 miles away.

Several airlines halted flights in and out of the Mexican capital leaving many passengers facing delays and cancellations.

This passenger says she might not be able to fly out until Saturday.

With up to 50,000 residents at risk from volcanic gases and lava flow, authorities are keeping a close watch over Popocatepetl.
