Bringing a new baby home for the first time is probably the happiest day of any parent’s life. 33-year-old Chris LeCompte, who works as an Evergreen Park police officer was recently at the hospital, getting ready to take his newborn son home, but things got a little chaotic as he had to stop a robbery first.

It all began when LeCompte stopped by the hospital cafeteria to grab some lunch. His wife was still in a room upstairs and packing. LeCompte was unarmed and unprepared for what happened next.

While eating, he heard a woman scream and looked back to find two men fighting on the ground. The frantic woman’s husband was wrestling with a suspect who had swiped the female’s $600 iPhone 5 from a cafeteria table.

That signature cop instinct kicked in and LeCompte joined the fight in apprehending he suspect. He was able to successfully subdue the over 6 foot tall, 220 pound suspect until security guards arrived.

LeCompte joked - “It was an exciting day, but it didn't need to be that exciting.”
