The English supermarket chain, Sainsbury's has recently issued an apology to a woman, who was refused service because she was talking on a cell phone. Recently, the 26-year-old lady, Jo Clarke arrived at a checkout station at one of their grocery stores in south east London.

She was speaking to someone on her mobile phone waiting for the female cashier to ring up her items, however the worker reportedly just stared at her. Clarke asked if everything was ok. The cashier replied that she would not serve her until she got off her phone.

Clarke ended her call and pointed out she didn’t realize cell phone talking was prohibited as part of the store policy. That’s when the employee stated “Well, you learn something new every day”.

Rattled by the ordeal, Clarke stopped by the customer service desk on her way out and she was officially told there was no policy against customers using their phones during the checkout process. Sainsbury's has offered Clarke a voucher for her negative experience, but she promised never to return to the chain store.

In reference to the cashier, Clarke stated “I couldn't believe how rude she was. When did she have the right to give me a lecture on checkout etiquette?”
