Stories concerning animal neglect are heartbreaking and maddening at the same time.

A puppy was recently left outside and abandoned in Virginia Beach.

The excruciating outdoor temperature almost killed the dog. Thankfully a teenager riding a bike noticed the tiny Miniature Pinscher/Pug Mix breed inside a crate.

The unidentified teen took the male pup to a local pet hospital to get him some help. That small good deed saved the dog’s life.

Veterinarians estimated that had he been rescued only 15 minutes later, he would have died of heat stroke. A spokesperson at Pet Guardian Pet Services, Incorporated, Annette Still urged pet owners to drop off animals in a safe place.

She stated “I know people stress over taking an animal to a shelter, but they really would be safer. There’s air-conditioning there, there’s food and water.” The pooch, now named Austin has been vaccinated and is ready to go to a new home.

He is said to be housetrained, but most importantly, Austin seems to have reverted back to his worry free puppy life.
