A 400-pound 70-year-old lady was found inside a home in Auburn, Washington, with a maggot-infested wound on her leg. The lady's daughter was arrested after paramedics concluded the wound was about a month old.
In a troubling report, a neglected elderly woman may have maggots to thank for saving her life. The 400-pound 70-year-old lady was found inside a home in Auburn, Washington.
Local paramedics along with King County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the residence to find the woman essentially stuck to her bed. The workers looked through a window and witnessed maggots crawling in an open wound on her leg.
The sheets were filthy and covered with bugs. Police authorities entered the home and they were soon greeted by 46-year-old Sherrie Morton. She identified herself as the suffering woman’s daughter.
She claimed to be her mother’s caretaker and admitted she called police after she noticed the leg injury. However paramedics argued the wound was not new. They estimated it was about a month old.
A detective related to the case stated “The maggots may have helped keep the woman alive due to the fact that they were eating the rotting skin that was infected and helping to slow the infection.”

The elderly mother was taken to the hospital where doctors reportedly pulled hundreds of maggots from her body. Morton was arrested and charged with criminal mistreatment of a dependent person.
