STORY: Former South African President Nelson Mandela is showing a "great improvement" in his health compared to a few days ago, his ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, said on Friday.
"I'm not a doctor but I can say that from what he was a few days ago there is great improvement," she told reporters outside Mandela's former home in the Johannesburg township of Soweto, adding that "clinically he is still unwell."
Madikizela-Mandela said her family was "grateful" to the press and thanked them, saying "the role of the media is to inform."
But she added that there have been "problems here and there" in their reporting, saying that some in the press "get carried away with their reports and talk about our father in the past tense."
