The three-month window allows you to list "published" images up to three months after the designated day of first publication (not the date of creation) and obtain the full advantages of copyright law. Those released images, although, should be listed as "published." Images that are "unpublished" should be listed in a distinct registration, and the critical time component is that they should be listed before the infringement takes location in order to be eligible for an award of statutory damages and lawyers fees.
