A rescue group in South Carolina, All 4 Paws recently came across a facebook post from a shelter asking for someone to save a dog headed for euthanization. Named Mackenzie, she was dropped off by a pet owner who claimed she was bitten by a snake.
Employees from All 4 Paws saw the post and drove to the facility to rescue Mackenzie. The staff learned the previous owner said he tried to cut the infection from the snake bite off her face by using a pocketknife.
A crew at the Animal Hospital and Laser Center of South Carolina began treating the dog, but soon learned her injuries were far worse than what they initially thought. Mackenzie’s jaw was fractured and x-rays revealed she had been shot at close range in the face.
Veterinarians believed she turned her head at the right moment, preventing death, but her head was loaded with buckshot pellets as a result. After she recovers from surgery, Mackenzie will be put up for adoption and given to a loving, nurturing home.
