FBI digs for body of Jimmy Hoffa after mobster tip-off

FBI agents dig up this Michigan field in search of a body.

The nearly four-decade search for Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa may end on this suburban Detroit property, 20 miles from where he was last seen alive in 1975.

Authorities believe he was murdered by the mob and have checked thousands of leads over the years.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MICHAEL BOUCHARD, OAKLAND COUNTY SHERIFF SAYING:

"It's my fondest hope that we can give that closure, not just to the Hoffa family, but also to the community. To stop tearing that scab off with every new lead and bring some conclusion."

Reputed mobster Anthony Zerilli, who was in prison when Hoffa went missing, wrote that Hoffa was dragged from a car, bound and gagged, hit with a shovel and buried alive in a barn on the property.
