Authorities in Abbotsford dumped chicken manure at a homeless camp. The problem is that the feces could easily be spread throughout the entire city.
Homelessness is a difficult problem to solve and some cities are resorting to desperate means.
Authorities in Abbotsford, British Columbia opted to dump chicken manure at a makeshift homeless camp to discourage people from staying on the property.
The problem is that the feces could easily be spread throughout the entire city. Once a local advocate for the homeless, James Breckenridge found out about the campaign, the story on manure dumping went public.
He stated “Besides the dumbness of using chicken material in light of bird flu and then the big avian kill we had here not that many years ago, this camp is beside one of the major thoroughfares: there's a set of railroad tracks and this is a path that most people use to cut across it.”
That means residents in the city could have easily stepped in the manure and trekked it all over the area.
The city manager has issued a public apology and vows to remove the chicken waste from the land.
