The U.K.’s electronic eavesdropping and security agency GCHQ has been secretly gathering intelligence from the world’s largest internet companies, and they’ve been doing it with the help of the United States’ own NSA through it’s "Prism" program. This comes in the wake of the public learning that the NSA has had access to phone, credit card, and internet records for several years. The government insists the information is connected solely to stop terrorist attacks, and claims it has thwarted at least one major attack since the "Prism" program started.
